Mental Disorders Therapy through Instrumental Music. European psychologists say that everything must be seen from the base or underlying behavior, that is, his soul. If a mentally healthy person is able to resist the pressure that comes from himself or his environment. A healthy mental will not be easily disturbed by the causes of stress. So that a healthy person will surely be able to overcome his inner difficulties and conflicts, and do not want to be passively silent in his difficulties and sadness. Mental health itself is the avoidance of a person from the complaints of mental disorders in the form of neurosis and psychosis, adjustment to the social environment

In general, people assume that people who experience behavioral abnormalities are people who experience mental disorders. Mental disorder is a disease that is experienced by someone who affects their emotions, thoughts, or behavior, beyond their cultural beliefs and personalities, and has a negative effect on their lives or their families. Therefore, mental disorders are often associated with strange actions and thoughts and need to be shunned. Patients usually have disturbed their family and environment like, angry, raging, aggressive, destructive, and unruly.

So the suffering is often ostracized, feared, and even hostile. In the history of mental health in Indonesia, there was an incident of the patient’s custody, as was widely reported in the mass media in the 1970s. 4. Adulthood for sufferers because they did not have funds for treatment in mental hospitals and considered that mental disorders were difficult to cure. , the incident illustrates the misconception of a psychiatric disorder

For this reason, a new thing is needed with a new method for handling it. Because disease suffered by humans cannot always be cured with medical medicine or the sophistication of medical devices.5 American medicine experimented with the use of music for healing throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.6 It’s just that this method is rarely done in Indonesia. Especially the awareness of the public in looking at music. As a result, music that was initially noble and spiritual, was finally realized more as a negative.

While some of the groups that accept music assume that music is a holy place, a cathedral that is so graceful that we can feel the majesty of the universe, and also a hut that is so simple and private that none of us can spoil its deepest secrets. Thus, musical entities are universal and not black and white. Of course this view does not automatically affirm the normative aspect of music. It’s just that it needs to be underlined that the normative aspect arises not from the musical entity but is related to the functional-pragmatic use of music.

Because of the natural vibrations of the body, music has been used for a long time as a treatment tool for regulating bodily functions. Research on contemporary music shows that music can harmonize and balance all the rhythms of our body, including heart rate, breathing speed, blood pressure, brain wave frequency, and primary respiration rate. The effect is beneficial to the body’s immune and harmonic systems.9 Although music has many benefits for the body, when listening to it with a very tight volume is not a good thing. It can cause damage to hearing.

The use of music as therapy has the purpose of helping express feelings, helping physical rehabilitation, giving a positive influence on mood and emotional conditions, improving memory, and providing unique opportunities to interact and build emotional closeness.
